One Man's Opinion

Not long ago, my eighty-eight year old dad passed away, so my wife and I flew back to texas for his funeral. Now, it's hard for my wife to fly because she gets very nervous. So nervous that during takeoffs and landings she squeezes my hand so tight she cuts off the circulation.

Recently, my sister in law was driving to work. She lost control of her car and, at a speed of forty miles per hour, she smashed into the back of a flat bed truck parked on the side of the road. Fortunately, her air bag did work, and even though the impact of the bag literally broke her nose, it saved her life.

Not long ago I was talking with a Christian man who was trying to convince me that certain parts of the Bible may not be true for today because times and customs have changed so much. As we talked I could tell that what he was really trying to do was to condone something he was doing that the Bible says is wrong and sinful.

As school shootings continue across America, so called "experts" are asking "why?". Well, I'm no expert...but I know why. When we continue to overexpose our children to violence through movies, TV, and video games...we teach them to be more violent.

Today I see so many brothers and sisters in Christ that are what I call "middle of the road" Christians...willing to take the way of the world with no thought of what God wants from them. But, just what does Jesus think of these "middle roaders"? Well, in the book of Revelation He says that if you're neither hot or cold, just lukewarm, He'll spue you out of His mouth.

In the Bible, John 8:32, Jesus says "You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free". In this text He was telling the listeners the truth of who He really was, the Son of God, and that their accepting that truth would set them free.

The creations of Almighty God are absolutely amazing. We Christians are in awe of His perfection...but the world is still trying to figure out just how it happened. The other night I was watching the discovery channel as they talked about the great mystery of the planets and stars. They pointed out that if the sun was any closer, we would all fry from the heat. And, on the flip side, if it was any farther away from the earth we would all freeze to death. They were all amazed...just how could it be?

When I was in college, about a million years ago, I remember this one guy I overheard as he was talking about this great weekend he had. About this great party and how he got so drunk. "Then what happened", his friend said.

In the Bible we are told that Christians are to be the salt of the earth. Just what does that mean? Well, think about it. First, salt is in most all foods, even ice cream and pie. And, even though it doesn't make sense to our taste buds that salt should be in pie, if there is not salt, the pie tastes, sort of, flat.

We are taught all through the Bible that human life is precious...a gift from God that only He can give.
But we humans continue to ignore those words as literally millions of innocent children every year continue to be killed by abortions.
