One Man's Opinion

When my grandson, Jordan, was just six years old, my wife and I bought him an outdoor playhouse. He loved it. We played in it all the time. One day when I came home from work he was there. He said, "Bubba, let's start a club".

These days there's always a lot of talk about freedom of religion in America. Some say we should be able to openly acknowledge God and Christ in public. Others strongly disagree. But, I do think it's time we get one thing straight.

One of the most popular game shows to come to TV in a long time is "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire". I'm sure more than just a few Americans are dreaming just what it would be like to be a millionaire. (it all sounds good - why doesn't God just do it?)

It’s a real shame when a perfectly good word loses its original meaning and becomes a negative word. The word, "redneck" is a perfect example. In today's world a redneck is a pickup driving, beer drinking, racist. He spends most of his time polluting the streets with his tossed beer cans and filthy words. But that's not what the word "redneck" really means...its not even close.

Would somebody please tell me what's going on in America today? Or, maybe just pinch me...this has got to be a very bad dream. Listen to this. Recently a first grader was asked to stand in front of his class and read out loud his favorite story. When he stood up and began to read his favorite story, the Old Testament Bible story of Jacob and Esau, his teacher refused to let him read it. Why? Because he was reading from the Bible.

According to statistics, a majority of Americans say that God plays a vital part in their lives. If that's true, why are we so determined to push God out of our public life, our schools, and our government?

Each year our nation gives hundreds of millions of dollars in foreign aid to other countries. Much of it is humanitarian, but the largest part is simply to win and keep allies, in hopes that when we need help...we will get it.

These are certainly all potentially very dangerous, if used the wrong way, but they're not your most dangerous possession. Your most dangerous possession is your ability to chose...the choices you make in life. Why? Because the choices you make determine who you are and what you will become.

Anybody who knows me knows I like animals. And I certainly do not condone any abusive treatment to any animal. But, having said that, I must say this. I think it's ridiculous that anytime a story of cruelty to an animal becomes public knowledge, that story is at the top of the six o'clock news. Like animals are, somehow, more important than people. Sad to say, many people really believe that.

Since I was a small boy I've spent a lot of time fishing. And one thing I learned early on...even a dead fish can swim downstream. But, it takes a strong fish to swim against the current. God tells us that as Christians we should not follow the ways of the world. That we should, "Be not conformed". But literally millions of Christians have ignored God's Word and are doing just that...floating with the current.
