"This is what the Lord says: "Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, and ask where the good way is, and walk in it. You will find rest for your soul."

"Twas The UnPublished Poem"

christmas_memory_400It's perhaps the most famous American poem ever, but the author refused to admit that he even wrote it.  Why?

It was Christmas Eve, 1822 and a very sick little girl wanted just one thing for Christmas - for her father to tell her an all-new Christmas story.  So he set out, worked all night long -  and then he had it.

It was a Christmas poem and the little girl loved it so much she asked him to tell it to her over and over again.

Finally, the little girl was well and family members encouraged the father to have that wonderful Christmas poem published.  But he refused because he was a scholar, a professor, and he didn't want to be known, to be remembered, for having written simple child's poem.

Finally, without his permission, the poem was published and today, author Clement Moore is not known for his serious studies but his simple Christmas poem – “Twas the Night Before Christmas”.
