"Christmas - A National Holiday in America - By Law"

ulysses_grantWhen did Christmas become a formal national holiday in America, and just who made it happen?  Here’s one for you!           

In the 1850's, one man was very down on his luck - he had lost his job, turned to drinking, and he was broke. So broke that he had to sell his pocket watch at Christmas to buy his children Christmas presents.    

But, years later he would be restored as a soldier, he became a great military leader. and he helped America win a crucial war to save our union. 

And then, in 1870, he became President of our United States. As our president he signed into law the Congressional Act making Christmas a formal U.S. holiday.   

Who was this man who went from rags to riches and became our U.S. President?  Ulysses S. Grant.

So remember, Christmas in America is not just a holiday - it's the Law!
