"This is what the Lord says: "Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, and ask where the good way is, and walk in it. You will find rest for your soul."
Jeremiah 6:16 NIV

Are We Making Them Proud?

I wonder what our founding fathers would say if they could walk our streets today. Oh, I'm sure they would be extremely impressed with our growth and technology… It’s very impressive. But just how impressed would they be when they discovered that we have systematically taken all the things they built America on and have driven them right into the ground. We have taken the very God they cherished and pushed him out of our schools and our government buildings. Our hands are covered with the blood of innocent children…millions killed every year…all in the name of choice. We have allowed our society to become lazy and rebellious. There is little respect for the law and even less respect for us. Our morals have fallen to an all-time low and most Americans can't even see it. Yes, if our founding fathers could only see us now. But, just where do we go from here? Is it too late? Is there still time to salvage this wonderful America we all long for? Yes, but we can’t rely on others do it alone. And we cannot imagine that, somehow, our president, whoever he may be, can do it alone. President Eisenhower once said, "Never let yourself be persuaded that any one great man, any one leader, is necessary to the salvation of America. When America consists of one leader and 250 million followers, it will no longer be America." You see, just one group or person did not build our nation. It has been built by millions of Americans standing arm to arm with God’s help. And that is what we must do now. We must stand for what is right and good. We must determine no matter how difficult it may be, to now do the right thing. We must be an example of our children. A wise man once said, "You cannot lift your children to a higher level than that on, which you live yourself." And that is so true. We must be sure that our children are being taught morality, the sanctity of life, honesty, and responsibility. And we must be very sure that our schools are also teaching this. It was Abraham Lincoln who said, "The philosophy of our school room in one generation will be the philosophy of the government in the next." We must not allow liberal-minded historians to rewrite our history or cause us to forget what we know to be true. But, just what is it that makes America the greatest nation in world? In 1831, after visiting America, French writer Alexis De Tocqueville said this, "I sought for the greatness of America in her harbors, her rivers, her fertile fields, and boundless forests, and it was not there. I sought for it in her rich mines, her vast world commerce, her public school system…and it wasn’t there. I looked for it in her Democratic Congress and her matchless constitution…and it was not there. Not until I went to the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. No, I have concluded that America is great because America is good. And if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great."
