"This is what the Lord says: "Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, and ask where the good way is, and walk in it. You will find rest for your soul."
Jeremiah 6:16 NIV
"A Redeemed President"
By Jerry Stewart - Vision Productions When did Christmas become a formal national holiday in America, and just who made it happen?
In the 1850's, one man was very down on his luck, he lost his job, he had turned to drinking, and he was broke. So broke he had to sell his pocket watch at Christmas to buy his children Christmas presents.
But, years later he would be restored as a soldier, he became a great military leader and he helped America win a crucial war to save our union.
And then he became President of our United States.
In 1870, as our president, he signed into law the Congressional act making Christmas a formal U.S. holiday.
Who was this man who went from rags to riches?
Ulysses S. Grant.
