"Mr. Lincoln's Beard"

abenobeardBy Jerry Stewart - Vision Productions      Who suggested to abeparbeardAbraham Lincoln that he should grow a abefullbeardbeard?  His wife?  His campaign manager?  You might just be surprised!

In most every picture we see of Abraham Lincoln, he's wearing a beard.  But did you know that until age 51 he wore no facial hair.  So what happened to change his mind?

He received a letter from a child, a little girl named Grace Bedell.  She said she had seen his pictures and thought he would look better with whiskers.  She promised that if he would grow a beard, she would try hard to convince her older brothers, all Democrats, to vote for him as president.

Well, Lincoln did win the election and on the train ride taking him to Washington, D.C., he stopped the train in Grace Bedell's hometown, looked her up, and showed her his new beard.

Which Abe do you like best?
