"This is what the Lord says: "Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, and ask where the good way is, and walk in it. You will find rest for your soul."

Uncle Sam - A Real Person

uncle_samBy Jerry Stewart - Vision Productions     We've all seen the pictures and cartoons of Uncle Sam.  But did you know that the idea of Uncle Sam actually came from a real person?

His name was Sam Wilson.  Sam Wilson was a meat packer in the early 1800s who supplied our American troops during the War of 1812.

The meat was shipped to the troops in large barrels stamped "U.S."  When someone asked what those initials stood for, somebody said "Uncle Sam" and the name just stuck.

They began to refer to the meat as "Uncle Sam's Meat."  They referred to themselves as "Uncle Sam's Army", and that they were fighting for Uncle Sam. Very interesting.  Uncle Sam - a real person.
