"This is what the Lord says: "Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, and ask where the good way is, and walk in it. You will find rest for your soul."
Jeremiah 6:16 NIV

"Another Good Word Wasted"

By Jerry Stewart - Vision Productions    IT’S A REAL SHAME WHEN A PERFECTLY GOOD WORD LOSES ITS ORIGINAL MEANING AND BECOMES A NEGATIVE WORD. THE WORD, "REDNECK" IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE.

IN TODAY'S WORLD A REDNECK IS A PICKUP DRIVING, BEER DRINKING, RACIST. HE SPENDS MOST OF HIS TIME POLLUTING THE STREETS WITH HIS TOSSED BEER CANS AND FILTHY WORDS.

BUT THAT'S NOT WHAT THE WORD "REDNECK" ORIGINALLY MEANT – IT’S NOT EVEN CLOSE.

IN THE OLD DAYS WHEN MOST PEOPLE WORKED HARD FOR THEIR LIVING, THOSE WHO WORKED IN THE FIELDS UNDER THE BLISTERING HOT SUN WOULD GET A BAD SUNBURN ON THE BACK OF THEIR NECK.  THEY WERE HARD WORKING, HONEST PEOPLE WORKING BY THE SWEAT OF THEIR BROW. AND THEIR "RED NECKS" TESTIFIED TO THAT.

NOW, AS I SAID, IT’S REALLY TOO BAD THAT A WORD CAN BECOME SO TWISTED TO END UP MEANING SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. BUT, USING THAT CORRECT DESCRIPTION OF WHAT A "REDNECK" REALLY IS, I SAY THIS. WHAT WE NEED TODAY IS A LOT MORE "REDNECKS", HARD WORKING AND HONEST PEOPLE WORKING BY THE SWEAT OF THEIR BROW, AND A LOT LESS PEOPLE JUST STANDING AROUND WAITING FOR A HANDOUT THEY DIDN'T EVEN WORK FOR.

AFTER ALL, EVEN THE BIBLE SAYS, "IF YOU DON'T WORK...YOU DON'T EAT".
